The Fifth EU Asia-Invest Forum Opens in Chengdu
China Radio International, 6th November 2006

Over 100 participants from 15 Asian countries and 20 European Union member states gather in Chengdu for the Forum opening Monday.

This year's forum, organized by the European Chamber of Commerce in China and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, has attracted over 80 business associations from Europe and Asia.

Nicholas Costello, an official with the EU delegation in China, said at the opening ceremony this forum is the flagship networking event of EU's Asia-Invest calendar. It is a platform for European and Asian countries to reinforce existing contacts and make new ones, to exchange ideas and leave concrete plans for future cooperation.

According to Giorgio Magistrelli, secretary-general of the EU Chamber of Commerce in China, the forum aims to boost cooperation and collaboration between small and medium-sized enterprises in particular.

Over the two-day forum, seminars will be held to discuss issues about regional cooperation, the EU's role in Asia, as well as economic cooperation between Asia and Europe.

This is the second time the forum has been held in China following Beijing in 2002.
