Deepest Condolences to Ya'an Earthquake Victims Go back »

2013-04-23 | All chapters

The European Chamber is deeply saddened and concerned by the considerable loss of life, injury and damage caused by the earthquake in Ya'an, Sichuan. We have two offices in the Southwest region, in both Chengdu and Chongqing. Thankfully, none of our staff or member companies were affected by the earthquake.

It is devastating that the exceptional resolve of the Sichuan people has been tested again by a natural disaster so soon after the terrible earthquake of 2008. We continue to monitor the situation and are providing channels for our members companies to contribute in various ways. We offer all those affected our deepest condolences and compassion.

The Shanghai chapter's CSR Forum has compiled a list of organizations that will accept donations. To ensure the quickest possible response, we encourage members to give directly to trustworthy charitable organizations, particularly those with whom you have worked in the past.

The One Foundation (壹基金), was founded by Chinese Red Cross ambassador Jet Li in April 2007 as the Red Cross Society of China Jet Li One Foundation Project. The One Foundation is audited by the KPMG and the Deloitte. Website: http://www.onefoundation.cn/

The China Foundation of Poverty Alleviation (CFPA), founded in March 1989, is a nation-wide NGO that aims to alleviate poverty in China. It is currently the largest and most influential NGO that specialized in poverty alleviation in China. Website: http://www.cfpa.org.cn/

The Rende Foundation, initiated by the Amity Foundation, was founded in Shanghai in 2011. As the second public equity fund in Shanghai, the Rende Foundation received wide support from the Shanghai Civil Affairs Bureau, the Xinhu Group, the Foundation Center Org, etc. Website: http://www.rendefoundation.org/

If you or your company has made, or is planning to make, a donation or provide support in some other way, please let us know. Through our Southwest Chapter comprising Chengdu and Chongqing, we will be providing examples of our members’ activities to local officials to express our concern and support. We encourage you to keep us informed with your donation activities in the coming days by reaching us at Members_Corner@europeanchamber.com.cn.

Thank you in advance for your contribution.
