Dear Members of Auto Components Working Group,
The European Chamber is delighted to invite you to join the upcoming Auto Components Working Group Meeting: China automotive component market trends after Covid-19 and 2021/2022 Chair Election at 10.00-12.00, 26 March 2021 at the European Chamber Shanghai Office.
Covid-19 caused the automotive market to slow-down in 2020 globally. However, due to China's better control, China market is estimated to recover faster than other regions. Together with the fast penetration of new technology, joint-venture restriction removal, and brand upgrade from China local OEM, we think the opportunity for local and global suppliers will be different. More precise customer strategy, balanced investment among technologies, software capability, and an integrated solution might be the critical success factors in the future.
During the meeting, we will hold the Elections for the Auto Components Working Group firstly. Then, Mr. Yichao Zhang, Associate Partner at EY-Parthenon, will share with you the main observations of China auto component market trends post-COVID and how auto suppliers can grab the opportunity. The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session with interactive discussions on the topic.
Here below, please find the tentative schedule.

• Q&A and Discussion
• Announce the Election Result
Chair Elections:
In this meeting, 2021 AC Working Group Chair Election will be organised. The Auto Components Working Group Chair and Vice Chairs play a crucial role in driving the Group. The responsibilities of Chairpersons include taking a leading role in the drafting of the Position Paper, communicating key messages to the Chinese and European governments and steering Working Group meetings. The required characteristics of a Chair and Vice Chair are a senior industry representative with relevant industry expertise and government contacts who has the time and willingness to support the group. Previous participation in the Working Group is essential.
According to European Chamber internal best practices intended to promote new strategies and approaches for the operation of the group, the European Chamber recommends that a Chairperson should not exceed three years in his/her role and highly encourages all members interested in taking a leading role to put their name forward for election. Should you be interested in putting your name forward for election or nominate any candidate, please firstly read the attached document which outlines the roles and responsibilities of a Chairperson and then please send a short biography and a motivation letter, stating whether you intend to run for Chair or Vice Chair and your plans to promote the working group to Ms. Tiantian Qi at tqi@europeanchamber.com.cn no later than 4 pm, 17 March 2021. We have one chair position and one vice chair position.
In accordance with European Chamber internal guidelines, another email will be sent to the Working Group prior to the election, with the biographies and motivation letters of all candidates attached. Voting for the election, one vote per company, must be conducted in person at the Working Group meeting after each candidate has had the opportunity to give a short speech on why they would like to run for election. The duration of the term for both Chairs and Vice Chairs is one year. All elected Chairpersons must sign the attached Starter Kit, following election. To familiarise yourself with the Code of Conduct and responsibilities as chairs, please refer to the attached Starter Kit. Candidates running for the role of Chair, if not successfully elected, can opt to be included as a candidate for Vice Chair. Candidates running for the elections will introduce themselves and their goals for the Auto components Working Group over the following 12 months. Only Auto components WG members who had their registration confirmed for this meeting will have the right to vote in person or online, with one vote per company.
