On 19 January 2015, the PRC Ministry of Commerce released the draft Foreign Investment Law for public comments. If the Law is adopted, China’s current foreign investment regime, which started from 1979, will be replaced by a new system based on the national treatment principle, national security review system and extensive entity reporting obligations.

Starting from January 2015 new "Handling Procedures for Foreigners entering China for the Accomplishment of Short-term Work Assignments" are implemented on a trial basis. They allow foreigners to work for certain short assignments (in general less than 90 days) based on an M-/F- (business) or Z-type visa. This might also be a legal solution for some foreign interns in China.
