The Shanghai Appreciation Dinner, only happening every 2 years, is a prime opportunity for the business community to celebrate the European Chamber’s 20-year anniversary and the key role that companies play in Shanghai’s Economic recovery post COVID-19. It is also an opportunity to celebrate the close partnership between the European Union and the city of Shanghai.

In the previous dinners, we brought together more than 60 local government officials and a total of 250 participants. Leaders of the Shanghai Municipal Government and various government department leaders, including the Shanghai Municipal Commerce Commission, Shanghai DRC, Shanghai Customs as well as the EU Ambassador to China and EU Consuls General met over a business dinner in a unique atmosphere.

This year again, the European Chamber Shanghai is honoured to welcome Ambassador Nicolas Chapuis, Head of Delegation of the European Union to the People's Republic of China and Mongolia as guest of honour.

European Maritime Sector Networking Dinner

During these past eight months, the Chairs of the working group overcame difficulties and led the WG to make things happen: the drafting of the Shipbuilding Position Paper was realised, a call with EU DG-Trade counterparts in Brussels discussing the high tech supply chain was initiated, lobby actions advocating for business restart in cruise were taken and comments on the European Commission’s White Paper on Foreign Subsidies has been submitted. To see through our end goal of establishing a level playing field and build a platform for strong EU-China cooperation, more advocacies will need to be carried out in the second half of the year, and we are especially looking forward to the EU-China Shipbuilding Dialogue later this year. In order to realise WG members’ expectation, we would like to meet you and invite you to share your experience, your ideas and perspectives, but most of all to meet each other and have fun.

Let this be an evening to celebrate our commitment and support for each other!

In recent years, innovation has been one of the most used terms in the circle of Chinese policy makers, the reason being that in such a fast-speed environment, innovative ideas are key to unlock China’s development and strengthen its global competitiveness. For that reason, China has signed co-funding deals and rolled out policies to encourage the start-up scene in their market, especially focusing on financing new ideas and innovations in China. The most prominent funding and programs include are the ‘EU-China Co-Funding Mechanism’, the ‘National Natural Science Fund’, the ‘Bases and Talents Program’, ‘The Medium to Long-Term Plan for the Development of Science and Technology (2006-2020)’, etc. To be able to succeed in this huge but complicated market, a good understanding of the innovation landscape and its funding opportunities in China is essential.
