On 23rd February, the European Commission published a proposal for a Directive on Sustainable Corporate Governance. The European Chamber has invited Ms Orsolya Csorba, Counsellor for Competition, Justice and Consumer Policy at the Delegation of the European Union to China to provide a debriefing on the Commission’s proposal. Ms Csorba will provide the debriefing onsite in Beijing on Thursday, 31st March from 10:00AM to 11:00AM. Members wishing to attend online will be provided a Zoom link.

SCA Working Group Kick-Off Meeting and Elections

The European Chamber is happy to invite you to the kick-off meeting of the Standards and Conformity Assessment Working Group (SCA WG), which will take place onsite from Beijing and online via Zoom on Tuesday, 29th March, from 15:00 to 16:30.

At this meeting we will discuss recent developments in Europe and potential implications on business in China from both the regulatory perspective and the geopolitical perspective. Ms Ester Canada Amela, Senior European Affairs Manager, European Chamber will provide a brief update for WG members on recent EU regulations that the Chamber envisions will come to impact member companies in China.

At this meeting we will also hold Working Group Chair and Vice Chair Elections for 2022/2023. We encourage as many of our members as possible to attend to have their say in the leadership and representation of the Working Group in the year ahead.

This opening edition will feature prominent experts from the European Commission, European banks and leading research institutes in China, who will discuss the Green Deal, the EU Taxonomy and where both fit in the broader sustainable finance framework.

In the context of carbon neutrality, the EU and the industrial front have carried out research on the recycling technology of electronic and electrical waste, especially focusing on the recycling technology of rare earth elements and rare metals with high added value in solar panels, electric vehicles, batteries and electronic circuit boards. This combination of resources and energy carbon reduction measures has an important reference significance for the choice of China's resource strategy and energy strategy, and also has a guiding role for enterprises engaged in waste recycling.
碳中和的大环境下欧盟和产业前沿展开了包括电子电器废弃物回收技术的研究,特别关注于太阳能板、电动汽车、电池、电子线路板中高附加值稀土元素和稀有金属的回收利用技术,此项结合了资源和能源减碳的措施对我国资源战略和能源战略的选择有着重要的借鉴意义,对从事废弃物回收利用的国内企业也有方向性的指导作用。

At this meeting working group members will discuss the agenda for this year’s Position Paper and decide upon what should be highlighted in the Maritime Manufacturing & Industrial Services Working Group Position Paper 2022/2023 (e.g., decide which key recommendations to keep and new key recommendations to put in). The European Business in China – Position Paper is the European Chamber’s primary annual publication. It delivers to the Chinese Government detailed recommendations for improving the business environment, spread across industry sectors and horizontal issues. The Position Paper details how persistent issues, such as limited market access and a complex regulatory environment, prevent European businesses from contributing fully to China’s sustainable development.
