The Environment Working Group is pleased to invite you to its 2023 Kick-off Meeting, Chair Elections and Position Paper Discussion on Monday 3rd April 2023, 15:30-17:00 at the European Chamber’s Beijing and Shanghai Offices.

In the first part of this meeting, Rachel Zhang, Climate Change Certification Manager of TÜV SÜD, will present a keynote presentation on the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) : What are the implications for European companies ?

From 1st October, the transition period of the Carbon Board Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) will begin, where the embedded GHG emissions of some exported products will be required to be reported on a quarterly basis. These policy changes will impact many European companies operating in China, particularly due to global pledges to reduce carbon emissions. Which industries will be affected and how will the GHG emissions be calculated? How will this be reported? This keynote presentation will outline the CBAM scheme and share some best practices from a verifier’s perspective.

The second part of the meeting will consist of the Chair Elections and Position Paper Discussion. Candidates running for the elections will introduce themselves and their goals for the Environment Working Group over the next 12 months.

CSR Forum Meeting & 2023 Forum Shanghai Chair Election

The Sixth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) pointed out that by 2050, changing our lifestyles and behaviors, supported by supportive policies, infrastructure, and technology, could reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40per cent-70 per cent. It looks that low-carbon consumption will help systematically reduce emissions, accelerate infrastructure and technological transformation, promote green and low-carbon transformation of products and services throughout the lifecycle, and improve people's well-being, driving high-quality economic growth.

What is the status of low-carbon consumption among Chinese consumers? Who is the key influencer in low-carbon consumption? What factors will hinder or drive low-carbon consumption? What is the proportion of low-carbon consumption in daily expenses? How can companies seize the low-carbon consumption trend and create incremental markets in the post-pandemic era? We hope to tackle these questions through this sharing.
