In the last decade China has seen a continuous rise in the number of foreigners travelling or moving into the country for business, education, and other purposes. But, since the pandemic’s lockdowns, the Chinese government imposed a series of travelling policies, which has made it complicated for expats to go through procedures of documents and return to China. The uncertainty about entry permission though holding valid visa and residence permit remains.

On the other hand, China rolls out incentives for foreign talents to live a more comfortable life in terms of settlement, tax, social insurance, medical services and education. The European Chamber is delighted to invite you to this workshop where insiders and experts will analyse the foreign population’s development in Shanghai, and deconstruct policies relevant to expats.

Despite the ongoing challenges of Covid-19 and the resulting economic fluctuations over the past two years, the new energy sector has continued to see staggering growth, including electric vehicles, which set new records in Chinese sales in the past year. The rapid growth of offshore wind energy and solar PV in recent years has breathed hope into global efforts to reduce carbon emissions. Whether it be at COP26 or in China’s 14th FYP, one message always rings clear: the new energy sector is key to tackling climate change and reaching carbon neutrality, and its growth is only the beginning of the global shift towards sustainable practices.

Understanding the growth of the renewable energy sector gives us reason to be more optimistic about how fast it can ramp up to meet carbon neutrality goals in the future. As Chinese and European companies lead in the transition towards green energy, the European Chamber of Commerce in China is delighted to invite you to discuss the outlook of the new energy industry in China and its impact on corporations as well as policy structures. This workshop will explore challenges and best practices involving green transition and carbon neutrality in China, and provide insights into the future of green energy.

At the end of 2021, Omicron, the fifth highly significant variant of the original SARS-COV-2, was designated a ‘variant of concern’ by the World Health Organization (WHO), based on its transmissibility and the severity of illness it can cause. South Africa, where Omicron was first reported, was the focus of the world’s attention as the number of infections surged within a few weeks. The new variant is now prevalent worldwide. The situation in China is also gloomy, given the increasing number of Omicron cases being reported across the country, which is likely to put China’s zero-COVID strategy to perhaps its toughest test yet.

To brief the European business and diplomatic community in China on the latest about Omicron, the effectiveness of current vaccines and treatments, as well as recommended actions for countries and individuals, the European Chamber has invited a group of prominent speakers to provide their different perspectives on the developing situation.
