The European Union Chamber of commerce is delighted to invite the Deputy Director General Mr. Yongzhong Zhang at the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration (SIPA) to provide an update on the status of the institutional reform. Following the introduction by SIPA, European Chamber Intellectual Property Rights Working Group National Chair, Field Fisher Partner, Ms. Xu Lin will bring forth some of the widely-shared questions and concerns from the industry, including the enforcement of patent administrative, IP protection during an exhibition, etc. The floor will be opened for all attendees for questions afterwards.

On April 23, 2019, revisions of China’s Trademark Law passed into law by the National People’s Congress Standing Committee. The amendment aims at enhancing intellectual property protections and seemingly addresses US concerns over forced technology transfer and IP theft. It is noticeable that the amendment seeks to penalize “bad-faith trademark registrations without intent to use”. The amendment to the Trademark Law will take effect on November 1, 2019.
