European Chamber Welcomes and Supports “Mission for Growth” to China

Their visit was arranged under the title of ‘Mission for Green Growth’.  Together, both Commissioners lead a delegation of more than 60 European business professionals.

The European Chamber participated in this important and timely mission in the following ways:

•       European Chamber President Davide Cucino, accompanied by European Chamber Executive Committee and Advisory Council Members met Vice President Tajani, Commissioner Potocnik, and members of their Cabinet. During the meeting they debriefed the group on specific industry and environmental issues. President Cucino also highlighted the importance of the upcoming 4G tendering, which is worth over 3.5 Billion Euros to European business.Vice President Tajani and President Cucino also engaged in a bilateral discussion on the general business environment in China.

•       President Cucino joined a restricted group of business representatives during the bilateral meeting between Vice President Tajani and Minister of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) Miao Wei.

•       European Chamber President Cucino gave opening remarks at Business Roundtable Conference co-hosted by MIIT and the European Delegation. Members of the European Chamber also presented on the topic of “Doing Business in China” during the panel session of the conference. 

•       The European Chamber presented the recent findings of the Chamber’s Business Confidence Survey and the regulatory environment, as well as supported a match-making event between EU and Chinese companies. 

Davide Cucino, President of the European Chamber, said, “We warmly welcome the Mission for Growth visit to China.  Despite the many challenges of doing business in China, this country still offers many opportunities for European companies.  We are proud to work closely with the Directorate General for Enterprise through the implementation of the IPR SME Help Desk and the EU SME Centre.  Both of these projects provide essential support to the European Companies, most notably SMEs, and without Commission funding and support would simply not be possible.”

The European Union Chamber of Commerce in China was originally founded by 51 member companies based in China on 19thOctober 2000. The rationale for the establishment of the European Chamber was based on the need of the European Union and European businesses in China to find a common voice within various business sectors.
