Comment:
Beijing, 12th March 2009. The European Union Chamber of Commerce in China welcomes the policy (MOFCOM Announcement No.8 2009) released today by China's Ministry of Commerce that relaxes and decentralizes the regulation of foreign investment activities in China.

The Chamber strongly supports China's efforts to ensure continued economic growth, and hopes to see the introduction of more policies like this that help to build a level playing field for all businesses. The Chamber believes that improved market access for foreign companies will provide more choices for Chinese consumers, in turn helping to stimulate domestic demand.

The Chamber notes that this new decentralized system devolves authority for approvals to local regulators. The Chamber would welcome greater transparency of approval processes on a local government level and therefore calls for substantial improvement in this regard.
