The European Chamber’s Research and Development Working Group was created in order to further develop the activities of the former Research and Development Forum of the European Chamber as members recognised the need to engage directly with Chinese authorities at both central and local levels. It is composed of professionals directly involved in R&D operations in China from more than fifty European multinational corporations (MNCs), which all have R&D centres and large-scale R&D operations in China, mostly located in the Beijing and Shanghai areas. Various sectors of the industry are represented in the working group including companies that enjoy global leading positions in their sectors, such as automotive, chemicals and petrochemicals, aerospace, energy and pharmaceuticals.

The working group aims to provide a platform to exchange information, experiences and best practices among member companies and also aims to promote dialogue and transparency in the field of R&D policy. It meets regularly with European and Chinese policy-makers, including the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) and the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Research and Innovation.
