2019 is a highly significant year for the People's Republic of China, as it marks the 70th anniversary of its founding. This follows closely on 2018's 40th anniversary of the opening up and reform policy. As such, the annual gatherings of the legislative and political advisory bodies of government, or 'Two Sessions', were highly anticipated.
