On October 29, BSH China opened its new electrical water heater factory in BSH Appliance Park in Nanjing, demonstrating BSH China's expansion into China's water heater market. BSH management board member, Prof. Vogt, Ronald Gerke, CEO and President of BSH China, Zhao Xiaojian, Vice Mayor of Nanjing, and other local government leaders were present at the ribbon-cutting ceremony. "We will provide Chinese customers with the most durable, most energy-efficient, safest and most user-friendly electrical water heater appliances," said Mr. Gerke.

In a span of five years, Siemens electrical water heaters rose to fourth place in the Chinese market and are poised to break into the top three. To this end, BSH invested some 7.5 million euros in the new 5,400 square meter factory and equipped it with an advanced production line. The factory, which is expected to produce 500,000 water heaters for the Chinese market in 2009, has attracted the experts from Traunreut and Nanjing in the field of electrical water heaters.

The new factory also adheres to BSH's environmental protection management system. "I can proudly state that over the years, levels of quality and energy efficiency have developed at the BSH sites here in China that bear comparison with anything available world-wide," said Prof. Vogt. Various efforts, including the recycling of wastewater, the filtration of gases and noise control were made to reduce impact on the environment to a "zero level".
