Chengdu Chapter Calls for Firms' Involvement in College Education

Many companies complain that it is difficult to recruit qualified employees. Meanwhile, fresh graduates, the source of human resources, find more and more doors shut to them by demanding experienced talents. To change the situation and to improve the quality of human resources in long term, close cooperation between universities and enterprises is necessary. However, it cannot be achieved by few bilateral agreements.

An HR roundtable meeting dedicated to college students' professional training is to be held in Chengdu on June 16, 2006, by unifying leading local universities and foreign enterprises. European Chamber will propose to apply yearly short-term internship to college students ever since the first year, instead of 6 months in the end. Working experiences have been cumulated when the student reaches his graduation after 2-3 years. By offering simple tasks to interns, companies could save head count budget to much sophisticated positions. It is also the way to know candidates further before the recruitment, and it helps to reduce the turnover rate of young graduates.

Enterprises' involvement in the course program and career tutorial of universities is a felt want for both sides. The intervention in up stream of supply chain may bring about the cost reduction in training and recruitment for enterprises in long-term. And students benefit from a professional training ready to practice and as well as, an improved soft competence more and more concerned by enterprises.

An HR Forum in the same purpose will be held by Chengdu Chapter at the end of July. Origin of participants will enlarge to all local universities and Chinese enterprises. European Chamber will call for involvement of all concerned parties in improving the human resources supply of local market. A Job Fair is scheduled to be organized in October, to facilitate the recruitment of English speaking candidates for foreign companies in Chengdu.
