Energetic breakfast with Commissioner Piebalgs

The European Chamber had the pleasure of the company of European Commissioner for Energy, Andris Piebalgs, on 22nd February for a breakfast meeting in Beijing. Following the energy theme from the previous day's lunch meeting with the European Chamber in Shanghai, Beijing concentrated on renewable energy and nuclear in particular.

The table was circled by members from the Commission, the Chamber, the Delegation and companies strongly representing nuclear in China: Alstom Power Generation, Siemens Power Generation and Areva China. The French Embassy was also represented by their nuclear specialist.

The meeting was launched by Mr. Giorgio Magistrelli, the Executive General Manager of the European Chamber and followed by a brief introduction from the French Embassy on the history of nuclear energy in China, how it is viewed today and what the future might hold for it.

The companies present then gave a short introduction of themselves and the main issues they are facing when trying to penetrate the nuclear market in China. The Commissioner was interested and empathetic regarding the topics discussed and keen to learn more on the situation in China, and possibilities for future collaboration between European and China.

The breakfast established mutual interests and developed a solid base for Chamber cooperation with the Commission on energy matters in the future.
