The Shanghai Chapter of the European Chamber welcomes Commissioner McCreevy

On May 17th, the European Chamber in Shanghai hosted a lunch in honour of Commissioner McCreevy, Head of the Internal Market and Services Commission Department.

Dominique de Boisseson, Chairman of the Shanghai Chapter, welcomed the guests. His Excellency Mr. Abou, Ambassador of the Delegation of the European Commission in China and Dr. Schaub, Director General of Directorate General Internal Market and Services, led the delegation of representatives from Brussels and Beijing.

From the European Chamber side, Marcus Wassmuth, Chairman of the Banking Working Group, gave a speech on the current status of banking issues in China and particularly in Shanghai. In turn, a briefing on Finance and Taxation was provided by Michael Pfaar, Chairman of the related Working Group.

A lively debate followed on legal and IPR issues where Peter Corne and John Grobowski from the Legal Working Group as well as Douglas Clark, Chairman of the IPR Working Group, explored the current status of legal issues affecting European operators in China.

The lunch resulted in a most appreciated exchange of information and views. Commissioner McCreevy highly emphasized the contributions from the Chamber and updated the guests on his meetings with Chinese authorities. In the afternoon, a cocktail reception was held where members of the Chamber met with Commissioner McCreevy and his delegation.
