IPR Working Group

Meeting with Jiangsu Economic and Trade Commission (27th June) and Guangzhou IP Office and Guangdong Economic and Trade Commission (28th June)

Recognising the importance of the protection of Intellectual Property for the stimulation of investment and trade and that strengthening the information flow between relevant government agencies and IP right holders will be advantageous for the effective protection of IPR, in November 2006, the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China and Guandong and Jiangsu Province Offices of Working Groups for IPR protection signed a “Memorandum of Understanding on Strengthening the Cooperation on IPR Protection”.

On the 27th and 28th of June, as a first step forward in this cooperation, the European Chamber, represented by the IPR Working Group Chairperson ( Paul Ranjard), and accompanied by the IPR Officer of the EU Delegation (Thomas Pattloch), visited Guandong and Jiangsu IPR Complaint Centers. This delegation, funded and co-organised by the EU – China Trade Project (EUCTP) met several representatives from Jiangsu Economic and Trade Commission, Guangzhou IP Office and Guangdong Economic and Trade Commission to discuss the implementation of the MoU.

Guangdong and Jiangsu authorities proved to be willing to intensify the dialogue on IPR with the EU.
