During the more than 20 years that it has been present in China Iveco has become well established in the local Market. Their most popular vehicle the Nanjing produced ‘Daily’ light truck sold 24,9000 models last year and the Iveco’s Nanjing JV NAVECO currently enjoys around 11% market share. JV partners provide IVECO with a very favourable platform in China. Though they are a very International industrial vehicle company, successful JV partnerships have allowed IVECO to achieve the understanding that is crucial to success in the China market.

On May 14th, The European Chamber met with General Manager of IVECO-FIAT S.p.A. Representative Office in P.R.C. and Vice President of Fiat Group Mr. Rudi von Meister, who shared his views on Iveco’s growth in Nanjing and the road ahead.

With the NAVECO JV established for 13 years, IVECO considers its performance in the China Market as among its best worldwide. Before 2006, Iveco only had one JV partner which was established in 1996. Last year, IVECO and SAIC co-founded the Saic Iveco Hongyan Industrial Vehicle Co. Ltd., Saic - Fiat Powertrain Hongyan Co. Ltd. and SAIC-IVECO Commercial Vehicle Investment Co., Ltd. These new partnerships will enable Iveco over the coming years to expand and move beyond high end light trucks into the prodcution of a wide range of industrial vehicles including engines, accessories, light passenger cars and heavy trucks.

These plans will be made possible through expansion in Nanjing, with the incorporation of Yuejin and through expansion westward following the creation of a new joint venture with Hongyang in Chongqing municipality. The latter will produce 130 000 trucks a year with a capacity for 20 000 by the beginning of 2009. As a key part of Fiat Group, IVECO enjoys and will continue to take advantage of options for synchronising supply chain, training, dealer networks.
On the afternoon of June 13th NAVECO plant will host a European Chamber factory tour. To register for this event please click here
