9th May 2008 Europe Day dinner List of participants and review of the event are available. More than 150 people joined the European Chamber of Commerce in China to celebrate Europe Day on May 9 at Chengdu's Kempinski Hotel. Guests sat down to dinner refreshed from a welcoming aperitif and tucked into a delicious four-course meal accompanied by Australian red wine and a live band. A collection of artwork by the Chengdu-based German artist Heinz Martin Breuer was also on display in the banquet hall. Chairman of the Chengdu EUCCC board Pascal Hermandesse toasted his guests and explained the significance of Europe Day, which marks the anniversary of the "Schuman Declaration" when French politician Robert Schuman outlined the creation of an organized Europe. The declaration, made in 1950, is considered the beginning of the European Union. After dinner a lucky draw was held, with prizes including weekend stays in luxury hotels and membership of an exclusive fitness center. The Europe Day dinner was the third year in a row the Chengdu EUCCC chapter has honored the occasion. <!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> <!--[endif]-->
