Since August 2016, consecutive explosion incidents of Samsung Galaxy Note 7 have been reported as headlines. These incidents have brought about severe negative influence on the Samsung’s reputation and its market share, and raised red flags for companies to reconsider their product safety and risk management. To offer a comprehensive perspective on the aforementioned incidents, our Working Group’s National Chair, Ms. Liu Huifang, Vice President and Beijing COO for TÜV Rheinland (China) will moderate a roundtable discussion on the incidents and recommendations on quality, safety as well as risk management.
Additionally, our Working Group’s Vice Chair, Dr. Cyrus Xiaoye Ma Ph.D, Vice President of Beijing Head Office for SGS-CSTC Standards Technical Services, will present a proposed joint research project with the State Council Development and Research Center (SCDRC) in quality and safety sector. The joint research results with top Chinese government think-tank could help lay a fundamental new policy orientation for multiple Chinese governmental regulatory bodies and set course for solving issues troubling European manufacturers, professional service providers and all other business subjecting quality and standards regulatory controls in China.

Election
Should you be interested in running the Chair and Vice Chair Election, the Chamber is kindly advice to firstly read the attached document which outlines the roles and responsibilities of a Working Group Chairperson. Based on past experiences, for Quality and Safety Services Working Group, the dedicated time of a Chairperson is about 20% of his/her time and of a Vice Chairperson is about 10% of his/her time.
Should you be interested in putting your name forward for election, please, firstly, read the attached Working Group Chairs’ Code of Conduct and Roles and Responsibilities documents. To apply, please send 1) a short biography and 2) motivation letter, stating whether you intend to run for Chair or Vice Chair to Kevin GAO at kgao@europeanchamber.com.cn by Friday, 3 March 2017, 4PM. Please kindly note that all relevant documents will be circulated to members in advance for review and consideration, and the application after the deadlines will not be considered.
Background and Procedures
The Quality and Safety Services Working Group Chairs and Vice Chairs play a crucial role in driving the Group. The responsibilities of Chairpersons include taking a leading role in the drafting of the Position Paper, communicating key messages to the Chinese and European governments and steering Group meetings. The required characteristics of a Chair and Vice Chair are a senior industry representative with relevant industry expertise and government contacts who has the time and willingness to support the group. Previous participation in the Group is essential.
In accordance with European Chamber internal guidelines, the Business Manager will send another email to the Working Group at least 7 days prior to the election with the bios and motivation letters of all candidates attached. Voting for the election must be conducted in person at the Group meeting (one vote per company) after each candidate has been given an opportunity to give a short speech on why they would like to run for election. The duration of the term for both Chairs and Vice Chairs is one year. All elected Chairpersons must sign the attached Code of Conduct following election.
The maximum duration of Chairperson or Vice Chairperson is three consecutive years. Candidates are only eligible for Chair or Vice Chair positions if he/she is physically based in China. Only Corporate members are eligible for Chair and Vice Chair positions.
