First of all, happy New Year to everyone! We are pleased to invite you to the first Energy & Utility Policy Working Group meeting of 2007 that will be held on Tuesday 6th February from 2- 4pm at the European Chamber, Beijing.
At this meeting, we will discuss recent E&U policy developments. We will also hear from Mr Calvin Xu, Program Manager of CHUEE (China Utility-Based Energy Efficiency Finance Program) of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private sector arm of the World Bank Group. This Program is expected to have a significant developmental impact in promoting energy efficiency, reducing pollution and greenhouse gas emissions, and expanding lending to SMEs in China. IFC program brings together three key players: utility companies, suppliers of energy efficiency equipment and commercial banks. For this part of the meeting, we will be joined by the PCOG Working Group.
After the presentation, each Working Group will meet separately in order to review the 2006 Activities and to have a first discussion on the issues to be considered for the next Position Paper 2007/08.Finally we will hold elections for Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson at the meeting.
According to our articles of association, we will hold the elections before the Chamber's AGM. Over the past year the Working Group has been chaired by Xavier Chen with Daniel Assandri and Bert Bekker as the Vice Chairpersons. With support from the Chamber's business manager, the Chairperson and Vice Chairperson play key roles in driving the development of the Working Group. Taking up this key position will enable you to help promote the Working Group activities and communicate targeted messages on behalf of industry to senior policy makers in China and Europe.
