The AWG meeting has been moved to Friday 14th January at 9.30am in the EU Delegation. The reason for this change of date is to ensure maximum participation in this crucial meeting and to allow the Automotive WG to be represented at a Chamber presentation to the Portuguese Presidential Delegation on the afternoon of 13th January 2005.
This meeting will focus on the AWG comments on the unofficial Management Regulation For Imported Automotives Parts released some weeks ago. This piece of legislation could have far reaching consequences for the automotive industry and is already causing some concern in Europe. It is important that the comments from the AWG are reflective of all members of the Working Group and therefore it is key that all members companies of the AWG are present.
Members have also asked for discussion of the Regulation for Three Engagements (click here to view a copy in Chinese. We do not yet have an English version available). AQSIQ has called for comments before 10th January and to this end a letter will be sent to AQSIQ requesting a delay to the deadline for comments. This new draft opens the door for buyers to make claims which could easily lead to returns of cars, replacements of cars and cost-free replacement or longer warranty of the core systems like engines and transmissions. Such a draft may mean that car-makers are unable to survive for long if implemented.
Finally, please also click here to view a new announcement on Issuing Automatic Import Licenses for Auto Products in Chinese and English. Time permitting, it would be ideal to discuss this new notice as well.
Please confirm your participation at this important meeting no later than Tuesday 11th January 2005 to Ms. Rhian Kelly at rhiankelly@euccc.com.cn .
