Since the COVID-19 outbreak, the Chinese government has undertaken unprecedented measures to bring the virus under control and mitigate detriment to the economy. However, in consideration of the pandemic spreading around the global, the downward pressure of the global economy are intensifying likely to result in further repercussions to the public and private sectors.
The trade volume between China and the United States in the first quarter was less than 100 billion US dollars, decreased by 19.96% year on year, accounting for 10% of China's total trade. The Sino-US trade war, the re-configuration of the world supply chain, and potential global decoupling will bring significant challenges under the impact of the global epidemic.
How does the existing China’s trade structure would respond to the derivatives of the epidemic? How can China's economy maintain its momentum facing a global recession? Since the outbreak, the United States and China have faced severe challenges, what is the nature of the relationship between the United States and China? Will the Sino-US trade conflict intensify? The European Chamber invites MA Hong, Tenured Associate Professor of Economics, School of Economics and Management, Tsinghua University, to share his insights on the above issues.
