Dear members of the ABF WG,
China has made great progress in safety and quality control within the agriculture, food and feed industries by making its concern a national priority. In the 12th National People’s Congress (NPC) and the Chinese People Political Consultative Congress (CPPCC), the food and drug administration was elevated in status to provide greater power to improve food and drug safety. The establishment of the China Food and Drug Administration (CFDA) which, together with the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA), will be responsible for coordinating supervision and administration across the entire agricultural food supply chain, further endorses and strengthens the authorities’ ability to manage safety effectively at every stage of the process, from farmer to fork.
The new CFDA replaces a system comprising up to 13 government agencies and it is expected that the new supervisory structure will be complete before the end of 2013. The AFB Working Group believes this will streamline the coordination between different line ministries and ensure efficient communication.
At the next AFB Working Group meeting on Tuesday 3rd September 2013, 09.00- 11.00 am, we kindly invited Ms. Huijun Gao, Deputy Director of Technology Intelligence Academy at Shanghai Food and Drug Administration to join our meeting and speak and explain to members about t the Food and Drug Administration Administrative System and its development after the reorganization in local level.
