Dear Working Group Members,
The European Chamber is pleased to invite you to a Joint-Energy Working Group Meeting, joined by Mr. Gailius Draugelis, Energy Sector Coordinator for China and Mongolia at the World Bank, presenting on urban energy issues in China. The meeting will be held at 10:00am on Wednesday, 17th September, at the European Chamber Beijing.
Gailius is one of the main authors of the joint World Bank-Development Research Center of the State Council’s study on “Urban China: Toward Efficient, Inclusive and Sustainable Development” and coordinator of the study’s chapter on green urbanisation, covering environmental governance, air quality, urban planning, transportation, industrial energy efficiency, building energy efficiency, clean energy supply, district energy, water, and solid waste.
For his presentation, he will provide a deeper dive on urban energy issues presented in the report.
The report recommends that China tackle environmental degradation and other strains of rapid urbanisation by systematically changing how it allocates land, people and capital across the country. This joint publication was prepared over a period of 14 months, with interim reports continually shared with China’s top policymakers as input to government discussions on urbanisation, providing a critical foundation for the formulation of policies on China’s new model of urbanisation.
After the presentation, Mr. Gailius Draugelis will answer questions from working group members.
