Dear Working Group Members,
The European Chamber is pleased to invite you to our next Carbon Market Working Group Meeting where we will receive a presentation by Mrs. Urszula Stepkowska, DG Trade, European Commission, on the plurilateral negotiations of the Environmental Goods Agreement (“green goods initiative”). The meeting will be held on Friday, 31st October, 13:00 – 15:00pm, at the European Chamber Beijing.
In this meeting, Mrs. Urszula Stepkowska will present on the plurilateral negotiations of the Environmental Goods Agreement (“green goods initiative”) that were launched in July 2014 in Geneva by the EU and 13 other WTO Members, including the US and China. The objective of these negotiations is to eliminate tariffs on a broad list of environmental goods, building on the APEC list. These include products related to air pollution control, water and waste treatment, renewable energy, energy efficiency, monitoring equipment. At a second stage, the negotiations will also address Non-Tariff Barriers and services, in particular those ancillary to the green goods exported, as a part of “future oriented agreement”.
After her presentation, Mrs. Urszula Stepkowska will stay and answer our members’ questions. Her topics of interest are:
- The process of the green goods negotiations;
- Potential interests in liberalisation of green goods and services in these negotiations, and
- Contribution of this initiative to climate and energy objectives.
