Vaitheeswaran, China Business & Finance Editor of The Economist, Rose Wang, Partner at Brunswick Group, and Dr David Ellis, Political Counselor, British Embassy in Beijing, on 16th April 2013, 15:30 at The Westin Bund Center Shanghai.
China's 12th National People's Congress Parliament named Xi Jingping as President and Li Keqiang as Premier as part of once-a-decade power handover. On the first press conference Xi Jinping described the 'Chinese dream' and both President Xi Jinping and new Premier Li Keqiang describe a Chinese future of a more streamlined and less spendy central government. China's new leaders promised to improve the worsening income gap and fix the pollution crisis in a push for the nation's "Great Renaissance".

Ms. Rose Wang
Rose joined Brunswick in 2011 to lead the firm’s public affairs practice in China. At Brunswick, Rose provides counsel to foreign multinationals and Chinese companies on a broad range of business-critical issues affecting their licence to operate. She works with clients to design strategies of stakeholder engagement, government relations and policy advocacy, develop corporate positioning and image rebuilding programs, and manage crisis situations around complex issues such as labour disputes, litigation, IPR and market access.
Rose started her career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China. She received a Bachelor of Law degree from China Foreign Affairs University, and an Executive MBA from the Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business (CKGSB).

Dr. David Ellis
Dr David Ellis has been Political Counsellor (Internal and Values) at the British Embassy, Beijing since late 2011. He and his team work on domestic Chinese politics, civil society and human rights. David specialises in leadership politics, Party issues and ideology. He joined the Foreign And Commonwealth Office in 1996 as a China analyst and served previously at the British Embassy in Beijing from 1999-2002. David has a long relationship with China, first visiting in the mid-1980s as a student in Xi’an. He has an MA (Hons) in Chinese and PhD in Late Ming Dynasty literature from the University of Edinburgh.

Mr. Vijay V. Vaitheeswaran
Vijay V. Vaitheeswaran is an award-winning correspondent for the Economist. He opened the magazine’s Shanghai bureau in 2012 and currently serves as China Business & Finance Editor. His editorial responsibilities range from business and finance to science, technology and innovation. He also serves as chairman of the Economist's provocative series of conferences on innovation known as the Ideas Economy.
Vijay is a life member at the Council on Foreign Relations. He is an advisor on sustainability and innovation to the World Economic Forum at Davos, and a regular speaker at the Clinton Global Initiative. He has taught at NYU’s Stern Business School, and his commentaries have appeared on NPR and the BBC, in the Wall Street Journal, the Financial Times and the New York Times. He has addressed groups ranging from the US National Governors’ Association and the UN General Assembly to the Technology, Entertainment & Design (TED), Aspen Ideas and AAAS conferences.
