The European Union’s (EU’s) and China’s economies are complementary in many ways. If China further opens its services industry, the EU can contribute greatly to China’s economy as it looks to transition from a model based on high-quantity, labour intensive manufacturing, to one based on high-technology manufacturing, services and consumption – all areas of expertise in the EU. Under China’s recent ambitious plan for developing markets in third countries—such as its ‘one belt-one-road’ initiative—
services offered by European players can be instrumental to Chinese partners with investment and production capacities.
