The European Chamber is a lobbying organisation and as part of our work we offer a bimonthly magazine and several other annual and ad hoc publications to our members. The European Chamber also organises many unique, branded events throughout the year.
The Designer in Beijing will report directly to the Director of Communications who is also Chief Editor of the magazine. The designer will be responsible for the design and layout of the Chamber magazine, EURObiz, and will also be responsible for all other creative design work relating to events, marketing and other publications. The candidate needs to be highly innovative and have experience working on magazines and publications as well as other creative design experience.
Responsibilities:
- Creative design lead for bi-monthly EURObiz magazine, including management of budget and image sourcing
- Creative design lead, in either consulting with vendors or for in-house production, for Chamber-wide marketing channels, e.g., videos produced for Chamber events, look and feel for large-scale annual publications, templates for digital ad banners for Chamber events or announcements, and new marketing channels that are developed, e.g., apps
- Manage Chamber photo library
- Responsible for delivering designs according to specifications and branding guidelines
- Manage schedules and workload with Senior Content Manager, estimating the time required to complete all design and magazine tasks
- Regular meetings with the editor to coordinate the appearance of the upcoming issue
- Prepare printing proofs
- Benchmark and monitor similar magazines
- Responsible for directing photographers for Chamber event photography on the best way to present their work for use in the magazine and other chamber promotional tools.
- Research and manage stock photography and illustrations to be used in Chamber creative
- Keep up to date with the latest design trends
- Complete other design and project duties as required
Skills & experience
Skills
- Artistic sensibility and creativity – sound knowledge of design elements, such as colour and composition
- Profound knowledge of publication-related design software, such as InDesign, PhotoShop or Illustrator, Quark Xpress etc
- Possess strong communication skills – ability to effectively present ideas, both verbally and visually
- Organised and professional – be able to plan effectively, meet deadlines and stay within a budget
- Problem solving ability – must pay attention to detail and be able to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
Requirements
- Two year previous experience in creative artwork for printing – either with print media or ad agencies
- A bachelor's degree, with an emphasis on courses in graphic design
- Fluent communication in Chinese and English
