The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in China
As a non-profit, federally owned enterprise, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is active in over 130 countries worldwide, implementing international cooperation projects and measures in the field of sustainable development on behalf of the German Government, as well as other national and international clients (e. g. EU, private enterprises, and foundations). In addition, GIZ is also engaged in the field of professional training around the globe.
With over 30 years of experience implementing projects in the People's Republic of China, GIZ provides policy advice on various topics and sectors relating to China’s reform process, including: environmental protection, sustainable economic development (especially renewable energies and energy efficiency), sustainable urban development, sustainable transport development, vocational training, law, product safety and consumer protection.
The performance profile of GIZ is continually being adapted to the cooperation needs of both countries – within the framework of the “Comprehensive Sino-German Strategic Partnership” – as well as within the framework of the dynamic changes occurring as a part of Chinese reform policies. In addition, GIZ works as both adviser and service provider at the interface between the economic and political spheres. GIZ is also active in those fields in which German actors possess in-depth profiles and competitive advantages, and where German expertise is in high demand.
Sino-German Urbanisation Partnership Project
In June 2016, the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety has commissioned GIZ to implement the “Sino-German Urbanisation Partnership Project” to lay the foundation for a cooperation on integrated and sustainable urbanisation and to stress the important role of cities to achieve the goals of climate protection. Through the establishment of an inter-ministerial working group as well as through a cross-municipal exchange of knowledge and a practical capacity building, the project will contribute to a sustainable urbanisation. Furthermore, the contents of this project will be disseminated on an international, national, regional and local level in order to ensure their embedding in the relevant political and professional networks.
Key Tasks:
§ Technical and organizational support for implementing project activities and events in coordination with the project team
§ Maintaining and establishing public relations to stakeholders from politics, industry, science and civil society
§ Policy advice, government relations and partner management
§ Coordination, monitoring, reporting and knowledge management of project components
§ Technical instruction of national co-workers and reviewers on project key topics
§ Facilitating exchange of technical know-how between German experts and relevant stakeholders for urbanisation in China
§ Support and facilitation of research and development partner cooperation, including own research
§ Translation and interpretation
Skills & experience
Requirements:
§ Master and/or Bachelor university degree in an area related to the project’s topics, e.g. urban planning, environmental planning, sustainable, integrated urbanisation.
§ Ideally 1-3 years of professional experience, preferably in the field of urban development/planning.
§ Basic knowledge of the international discussion on urbanisation and structural change.
§ Chinese mother tongue and fluency in English (written and spoken). German skills are considered a strong plus.
§ Excellent interpersonal, communication and networking skills. Political sensitivity in an international setting is very important.
§ High work ethics, reliability, personal integrity and motivation. The successful candidate must be able to handle multiple simultaneous assignments with competing priorities and fixed deadlines.
§ Excellent organizational and project management skills. Efficient, accurate and high quality delivery of all work-related output.
§ Very good working knowledge of common IT and communication applications.
