The ‘Tropical Timber Trade Facility’ is a triangular cooperation project between six member states of the Central African Forest Commission COMIFAC (Cameroun, Equatorial Guinea, Central African Republic, Gabon, Republic of Congo, DR Congo), the People’s Republic of China and Germany, facilitated by GIZ. It envisages to foster legal and sustainable timber export from Central Africa to China and beyond. It is commissioned by the German Ministry of Cooperation (BMZ) for a three-year period running from 04/2023 to 03/2026. The project works through three principal teams in Central Africa, China and Germany.
The Advisor will be responsible for tracking policies and technological advances to enhance timber supply chain traceability, legality and sustainability.
Skills & experience
Your tasks
- Track and analyse global (especially EU, China, and Africa) forestry and timber supply chain and traceability policies and technological advances.
- Provide forward-looking policy and technical advice to ensure the legality and traceability of the supply chain.
- Collaborate with international and domestic research institutions, government departments, and enterprises to promote supply chain transparency and sustainability.
- Participate in the development and implementation of supply chain traceability systems, providing technical support and training.
- Prepare related reports, evaluate the effectiveness of supply chain traceability measures, and propose improvements.
- Collaborate closely with team members to ensure project parts are well-coordinated.
- Maintain close contact with the teams in Germany and Africa to ensure the smooth progress of the cross-national project.
Your profile
- Master’s degree or equivalent in forestry, forest policy, timber trade or related discipline
- 5-10 years of experience in tracking international and domestic policy and technological advancements in traceability systems
- in-depth understanding of global, especially EU, China, and Africa, forestry and timber supply chains and traceability policies
- practical experience in supply chain management or traceability systems, capable of providing professional technical support
- previous experience in international cooperation, international timber trade and multi-stakeholder dialogue processes
- excellent analytical and report-writing skills, capable of translating complex technical information into actionable advice
- strong team collaboration spirit, ability to work efficiently in cross-national and remote teams
- business proficiency of Mandarin and English, knowledge of French and/or German considered to be an advantage
- readiness for regular business travels
