Roundtable with China International Import Expo Bureau
On Wednesday 9th November, the European Chamber’s Shanghai Chapter hosted a roundtable with China International Import Expo Bureau (CIIE Bureau). The European Chamber Vice President (VP) and Shanghai Board Chair, Bettina Schoen, together with members of the advisory council members met with senior leadership from the Ministry of Commerce, Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, and the CIIE Bureau to share their experiences and challenges of participating in the CIIE.

The Europe-China Workshop on Carbon Markets, a side event of the 5th China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai, was co-hosted by Agora Energiewende, Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS), and Energy Investment Professional Committee of the Investment Association of China (IAC) on Wednesday, 9 November. Carlo Diego D'Andrea, Vice President of the European Chamber was invited to speak as a panel expert on the national ETS from the perspective of EU businesses in China.

The European Chamber Tianjin Chapter organised its 2nd Carbon Neutrality Conference: The Role of European Business in China's Race to 2060 along with Green Partnership of Industrial Parks at Shangri-La Hotel Tianjin on Wednesday, 2nd November 2022. This event is also in memory of Guido Giacconi, former Vice President of the European Chamber, and a former passionate leader of the Chamber’s Energy Working Group, who visited Tianjin several times and supported this conference as the keynote speaker last year. Mickael Naouri, Vice Chair of the European Chamber Energy Working Group made a presentation on the work of the energy working group and moderated the panel discussion.

On 27th October, Mickael Naouri, National Vice Chair of the Energy Working Group presented an overview of the Energy Working Group and past advocacy actions to various EU Trade Counsellors at the the Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Shanghai. An in-depth overview of the European Chamber's Carbon Neutrality Report (launched in May 2022) was also provided, highlighting key opportunities and challenges for European busineses to help China reach its 2060 carbon neutrality goals.

On 26th October, 2022, Southwest China Chapter of European Chamber had a meeting with Sichuan Development & Reform Commission and CCPIT in Chengdu. During the meeting, Massimo and Sally introduced EU SME Centre and also addressed the main SME issues / suggestions as below:
1. Difficulty for SMEs to get financial support from local government and from finance institution
2. Suggest local government to put the next priority on SMEs if they want to attract more new FDI since most big fishes are already in China and also SMEs contribute lots of know-how and jobs
3. Further deepening of close cooperation actions in term of policy making to facilitate the landing and daily operation of European Companies in Sichuan (with a focus on the SMEs).
