Since the “One Belt One Road” Initiative was first announced in 2013, China has pulled out all stops to bring it to fruition, committing money not only into the new Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), but also the New Silk Road Fund (NSRF) and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), as well as bilateral arrangements with countries.
These investments, loans, and grants will be dispersed to create a network of infrastructure — including roads and rail lines, energy pipelines, power stations, and coastal ports — that is envisioned to extend west to Europe via the Silk Road Economic Belt, and downwards into Southeast Asia via the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road.
How is China’s OBOR initiative going in 2015? Is the “OBOR” really working or it remains a speculative bubble?
In spite of China’s good intentions, there are a number of salient risks along the way. The Transport & Mobility Program in Beijing Chapter would like to invite you to join a discussion with two experts from the Economist Intelligence Unit and PwC China to explore OBOR from a risk assessment perspective, specifically.
- Theoperational risks for outbound Chinese enterprises and EU companies investing projects and infrastructure in OBOR countries
- The credit risks for financial institutions involved in the OBOR initiative
