The slowdown in China -- which the IMF predicted will grow 6.3 percent next year, its lowest rate in 25 years -- is taking a toll on other emerging economies that depended on the Asian giant's ravenous appetite for their raw materials. Prices of oil, metals, minerals and other commodities have sunk as the world's second-largest economy has cooled, jolting the emerging markets whose boom drove the world economy during the 2008-2009 crisis. In the past, China’s growth was driven by credit financed investment. As China is moving toward a sustainable and more consumption-driven growth model, the country needs to balance three objectives simultaneously: address past vulnerabilities, move forward with the implementation of reforms, and ensure that growth does not slow too sharply
The European Chamber is delighted to have Mr. Alfred Schipke, IMF Senior Resident Representative of China, Dr. Gary Liu, Executive Deputy Director for CEIBS Lujiazui Institute of International Finance, Mr. Simon Rabinovitch, Asia economics Editor at the Economist and Mr. Joerg Wuttke, President of the European Chamber as they convene and discuss pressing economic, political and social issues in China for 2016.
In appreciation of the continued support of our members, this year the European Chamber will offer a complimentary ticket to the first 100 members* who register. This complimentary ticket is limited to one ticket per company. Additional participants will be charged at the normal members rate. Once the event is filled a waiting list will be formed.
