The most fundamental component of our health is the air we breathe; humans can survive no longer than a few minutes without it. Globally, the quality of our shared outdoor air is deteriorating due to pollution from particulates such as PM2.5, ozone and other chemicals. In China such exposure is exemplified. We are also subjected to interior environments that have poor indoor air quality, often due to off-gassing from materials within the building. These emissions contribute to conditions such as asthma, allergies and other respiratory challenges. Since we spend around 90% of our time indoors, creating a sustainable quality of air is essential.
If a good IAQ (Indoor Air Quality) plan can be put in place in an office setting this helps provide a healthy and comfortable indoor environment, increases staff productivity, management decision making and helps to attract and retain quality employees. Therefore, the impact of high quality IAQ to a business cannot be ignored.
However, implementing such a plan can be challenging due to necessary inclusion of different stakeholders such as senior management, employees and building management.
