Dear Members of Auto Components Working Group,
The European Chamber is delighted to invite you to join Auto Components Working Group Meeting and 2016/2017 Position Paper Discussion at 14:00 -16:30, Friday, 26 February, 2016, European Chamber Shanghai Office.
The essential role of transport in driving economic growth is often undermined by the sector’s negative footprint on environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues throughout the global supply chain. In particular, poorly-maintained and outdated transport equipment result in pollution and poses a danger to human health. Inadequate transport planning, enforcement and supportive policy actions create a void in which the safety of operators, passengers and users of transport and pedestrians and members of local communities is compromised through exposure to accidents and other hazardous conditions. For sustainable development to deliver its aspiration, ESG issues must therefore be integrated into all aspects of the transportation debates.
To see how transport and mobility sectors can contribute to the sustainable development, the Chamber is delighted to invite Mr. Qu Pengcheng, Senior Advisor from International Road Transport Union(IRU) to deliver a presentation to provide analysis on this topic.
At this meeting, Mr. Qu Pengcheng will introduce the Global Partnership for Sustainable Transport (GPST), a business and industry-led initiative, which focuses on a range of key material topics in the transportation sector with a view to enhancing the industry’s positive footprint on ESG priorities. By bringing companies and industry associations from all modes of transportation together with other stakeholders, the GPST fosters collective action and sustainability collaboration in support of the vision of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the recommendations of the UN Secretary-General’s High-Level Advisory Group on Sustainable Development. In addition to supporting existing transportation sector partnerships, the initiative mobilizes business and industry associations to advocate the effective integration of ESG issues into macro topics such as trade facilitation and transit corridor development.
After Presentation, the discussion on 2016/2017 Auto Components Position Paper will be organized with lead pens and active members on the overall timeline of the Paper draft process, as well as industry concerns, assessments and Key Recommendations (KRs). Kindly please find last year’s Position Paper in both English and Chinese as attached.
For this year’s Position Paper, the Chamber’s Executive Committee (ExCo) has identified the 13th Five Year Plan (FYP) as the general theme. Please find attached a Bloomberg analysis on the subject for your reference (the general 13th FYP will be published around mid-March 2016, several sectoral FYPs have already been issued).
