There have been a lot of recent headlines about the slowing Chinese economy. Harsh facts have been thrown around such as the weakness of the real-estate market, the massive overcapacity of the steel and coal industries, the over-indebtedness of local governments, and much more. Experts have expressed all sorts of opinions ranging from pointing out that 6.9% GDP growth is still a remarkable achievement, to ominous warnings about the contagion as major industries fall into recession, to analyses about whether foreign stock markets seem to be worried.
As a Executive, should I be worried? What is the true situation of the Chinese economy? Is it a powerful engine of growth which is merely temporarily slowing down? Or is it built on major weaknesses? And how about the long-term? What should I expect?
