In the face of an economic slowdown and increased pressure on profits, it would be easy to assume business leaders in China are putting environmental sustainability and social responsibility initiatives on the back burner. Far from it. Sustainability is now firmly on the corporate agenda in China. In fact, being green is no longer a cost of doing business; it is a catalyst for innovation, new market opportunity, and wealth creation.
Many companies are moving from ad hoc social responsibility programs to more integrated approaches by committing to business models that demand collaboration and smart risk-taking from every supplier in the value chain. While the transition to create a socially and environmentally responsible ecosystem in business operations can be challenging, it also presents the nation an opportunity to enable new forms of innovation to take hold.
Although CEOs proudly proclaim that engaging in CSR (corporate social responsibility) is the “golden ticket” to future growth and consumers are eager to support products and companies deemed ethically and socially conscious, is CSR actually profitable?
The CEO Talks: CSR vs. Profit forum aims to bring together corporate leaders and innovations delivering value chain sustainability and business resilience. These high-level discussions focus on placing sustainability at the beginning of the innovation process that involves increasing the company’s bottom line.
The European Chamber is delighted to have Mr. Mats Harborn, Executive Director of Scania China Strategic Office as he discusses CSR models and practices, as well as the next generation of issues that business leaders and society will face.
