Bumsuk Lim is a professor at Art Center College of Design, Pasadena California and is also a CEO of ‘Trans Lab Shanghai (2015)’ focusing on developing future urban mobility vehicles and systems.
He earned his Bachelor’s of Science degree in Transportation Design from Art Center College of Design and ever since then, he’s been working in automotive industry for past 25 years leaving his footprint globally. He was the first Korean automotive designer to work at GM’s Advanced Concepts Center in California and Honda’s WAVE Advanced Designer Center in Tokyo. After an extensive work experience, he decided to come back to school to join Art Center College of Design teaching advanced transportation design classes while working as an independent design consultant focusing on advanced vehicle concepts. At Art Center he created ‘Motorcycle / Personal Mobility Design’ class in 2008 to research and develop personal mobility of the future and under his leadership, there have been many creative solutions including ‘Wearable motorcycle concept’ that’s been featured on many media outlets.
He’s been invited as a speaker and lecturer at various design conferences and universities including Interior Motives, China Automotive Design conference, Hong Kong Poly Tech University, Taipei National Technical Institution, China Tsinghua University, China Tongji University, and China Jiatong University.
He currently writes monthly column for Car Magazine Korea. His writings have been featured on various magazines and websites such as BBC Top Gear Korea, GQ magazine, Arena, Das Auto, Green Car Design and others. He was quoted in LA Times, Reuter, Wall Street Journal, Popular Science, Arts & Culture, Design Talks, Car Design News, Beyond the edge, and Wired Magazine.
