At this meeting, members will have the opportunity to discuss about the EU project on cooperation on competition in Asia (China, India, Japan, Korea, ASEAN), the European Commission has published with the objective to get assistance in fostering cooperation in competition policy between the EU and Asia. This project will focus on three key concepts: EU Competition Weeks in Asia, Competition Summer School and Visitors Programme.
The EU Competition Weeks in Asia consist in a series of seminars and roundtables which will be held within one week and will deal with all areas of competition law (procedures, restrictive agreements, abuse of dominance, merger, State Owned Enterprises and State Aid control). The Competition Summer School is a two weeks training camp which aims at enrolling up to 30 Asian officials to train them on all areas of competition law. With respect to the Visitors Programme, the European Commission – Directorate General for Competition (DG COMP) - or national competition authorities will receivevisitors from Asian competition authorities for up to 5 months twice per year.
The initial period of implementation of the tasks is 5 years (60 months) and the maximum budget for the project is EUR 5 million. The deadline to submit the application is 16 September 2016.
Mr. Philippe Lucas, Business Manager at the European Chamber in Beijing who has an extensive experience in EU tender preparation and submission will provide an overview of the EU project on cooperation on competition in Asia and will be able to reply to the members’ questions.
Tentative Agenda:
14:30 – 15:00: Overview of the EU project on cooperation on competition in Asia done by Philippe Lucas, Business Manager at the European Chamber of Commerce in China.
15:00 – 16:30: Q&A session and discussion about the feasibility of the project. Discussion on the upcoming WG activities.
