1. Food Safety Discussion - Visit of Mr. Patrick Deboyser
Since October 2004, Mr. Deboyser has been Minister-Counsellor (Public Health and Food Safety) in the Delegation of the European Commission to Thailand, responsible for Asia and Southeast Asia. He is also Professor of food safety at the European College of Parma. Before moving to Asia, Mr. Deboyser was the Head of Food Law and Biotechnology at the European Commission in Brussels. Having joined the European Commission in 1984, he has been responsible for EU policy on Pharmaceuticals, Cosmetics, Food Law and Biotechnology.
This is an excellent opportunity for members to meet one of the most well known and knowledgeable people representing the EU on the area of public health and food safety. Mr. DeBoyser will be joined by Ms. Philippa Kelly, Senior Advisor, Agriculture, Quarantine and Standards, EU China Trade Project in Beijing. Members are invited for a discussion on the recent issues affecting the food industry in China.
2. Sanitary/Hygiene Certificates
Members have noted over recent weeks that there have been some concerns about the enforcement of Sanitary/Hygiene Certificates that is making it difficult for products to be pui\t on shelves. We invite members to pass on their information and, if needs be, to draft a text to be sent to the relevant government bodies to raise these concerns.
3 High Level Food Safety Forum in Beijing November 26-27
The High-Level International Food Safety Forum, led by General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of People’s Republic of China (AQSIQ), and cosponsored by the Ministry of Health of PRC (MOH ) and World Health Organization (WHO), will be held at Diaoyutai State Guest House in Beijing from November 26th to 27th.
