During his speech, "Value and Capital Management: A New Era", Dr. Wilson will share his views regarding a Black Swan risk in relation to the recent Brexit vote and lessons that the Chinese banking industry can learn from European banking risk management. He will also provide a general introduction on how risk management can add value to a company and share some of Allianz Group's experiences with this.
Dr. Thomas C. Wilson joined Allianz in 2008 and is responsible for all of Allianz’s global insurance and asset management businesses. Executive positions he held prior to joining Allianz include Chief Risk Officer for ING Insurance; Global Head, Finance & Risk Practice at Oliver Wyman & Company, which specializes in risk management, strategy and organization; CFO of Swiss Re New Markets; and Global Head, Risk Management Practice, at McKinsey & Company, which he joined in 1990.
Dr. Wilson is the author of Value and Capital Management: A Handbook for the Finance and Risk Functions of Financial Institutions published in the Wiley Finance Series, and he has been widely published elsewhere as well.
Since earning his BSc and PhD from the University of California and Berkeley and Stanford University respectively, Dr. Wilson has spent most of his professional career in Europe, living and working in Munich, Amsterdam, New York, London and Zurich.
