2016 has been the year of the Chinese consumer; they continue to grow relentlessly in number and in wealth. They are a rising economic force that is moving to the center of the Chinese economy and is now routinely impacting industries around the world. This surge in growth and buying power is creating both challenges and opportunities for multinational brands.
The European Chamber is pleased to welcome Jeffrey Towson, Professor of Investment at Peking University, Guanghua School of Management and author of the “One Hour China Consumer Book” to share a few hot case studies, including Uber’s recent deal with Didi Chuxing, highlighting cases where multinationals have excelled and where they have struggled in their fight for the Chinese consumer.
In addition to sharing his ideas on Uber's ‘China retreat’, Professor Towson will look at companies, such as Adidas and Starbucks, who are accelerating and opening stores at a rapid pace, along with companies such as McDonalds whose long term China strategy appears to be in a state of transition.
Agenda:
08:30 – 09:00 Registration
09:00 – 09:05 Opening remarks
09:05 – 09:45 Presentation by Jeffrey Towson.
09:45 – 10:30 Q&A session
