We are delighted to invite you to the European Chamber’s next Government Affairs Forum Meeting featuring Changing Politics and the Balance of Power in Europe: the Impact on MNCs and Their China Government Affairs Functions, taking place at 15:00 pm on Thursday 3 November, 2016 in the Chamber’s Beijing Office.
Following the UK’s vote to leave the EU, there has been a rapid shift in the balance of power in Europe.
With the coming departure of the UK, Europe’s leading advocate for free-trade, the influence of more protectionist opinions in Europe has already been felt throughout the European Parliament and legislative process. But what does this mean in practice for MNCs? How will they be impacted by this change? In many cases, the answer is potentially very serious.
We are very pleased to invite you to an exclusive session with Fredrik Lofthagen, CEO of Interel and the founder and Chairman of the Interel Global Partnership at the Forum meeting. In this session Mr. Lofthagen will assess the changing balance of power in Europe, detailing what this means for MNCs by highlighting specific examples of restrictive legislative threats that MNCs are likely to be faced in the post-Brexit Europe. He will then examine strategies how MNCs will need to engage with the ‘new Europe’ differently from the pre-Brexit referendum Europe.
This meeting will be of interest for representatives of Government Affairs functions at MNCs in China to:
1) Understand upcoming issues that are about to hit head office. Around the world, MNCs increasingly need consistent approaches to legislation in the three big markets of the EU, China and the US. When major legislative issues threaten HQ, the China GA function needs to support effectively and smoothly
2) Learn from examples of best practice in Europe to deal with these issues – a greater awareness of issues and techniques drawn from the European Parliament will help professionalise European MNC’s China GA functions.
