First of all, happy new year! We are pleased to invite you to the first PCOG Working Group meeting of 2007 that will be held at the European Chamber in Beijing on Tuesday 6th February 2007 from 2-4pm.
The first half of the meeting will focus on market-based solutions to address environmental issues in China. We will be joined by Calvin Xu, Program Manager of CHUEE (China Utility-Based Energy Efficiency Finance Program) from the International Finance Corporation, the private sector arm of the World Bank Group. This Program is expected to have a significant developmental impact in promoting energy efficiency, reducing pollution and greenhouse gas emissions, and expanding lending to SMEs in China. IFC's program brings together three key players: utility companies, suppliers of energy efficiency equipment and commercial banks. The presentation will also be attended by the Energy & Utility Policy Working Group. After the presentation and discussion, each Working Group will meet separately in order to discuss its own agenda. (see below)According to our articles of association we will hold the Chair elections before the Chamber AGM in April. Over the past year the PCOG Working Group has been chaired by Henry Wang with Johnny Kwan as Vice-Chair. The Chairperson and Vice Chairperson play key roles in driving the development of the Working Group. With support from Adam Dunnett as Business Manager, taking up this key position will enable you to help promote the Working Group's activities and communicate targeted messages on behalf of industry to senior policy makers in China and Europe. Should you wish to nominate yourself or another member of the Working Group to take up one of these roles please get in touch with Adam Dunnett on adunnett@euccc.com.cn. Please click here to view the job description of the working group chair.
The tentative agenda for the PCOG WG will be:
1. Joint E&UP and PCOG Working Group (via teleconference): Presentation on market-based solutions to address environmental issues in China by Calvin Xu, Program Manager of CHUEE.
2. Discussion on MOFCOM notice 82, consequences for the industry and ways of lobbying
3. Discussion on the opening of the wholesale business supplying gasoline and other products
4. Priorities 2007 and forward agenda
5. Elections
We look forward to welcoming you at this meeting and would appreciate if you could confirm your attendance before Friday 2nd February 2007 with Caroline Bevernage on cbevernage@euccc.com.cn.
