The majority of leading international media outlets have established a permanent presence in China - particularly in Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong. For many of these media, despite numerous operational and regulatory challenges, there is huge demand from their overseas audiences to increase their focus on China. Similarly, an increasing number of companies, both foreign multinational corporations (MNCs) and Chinese, are recognizing the importance of working with international media based in China to build their global profile and tell their China stories to global audiences. Yet, the approaches some companies are taking to engage with international media have, in many cases, proven ineffective.
To discuss this issue and improve our understanding of working with international media, the European Chamber will host an international media panel consisting of senior and experienced China based reporters. The panellists will share their experiences and insights of reporting from China and touch on a range of issues including challenges and opportunities for international media in China, hot topics for international media, tips for companies to engage with international media and how technological developments are impacting the day to day work of international reporters.
