The European Chamber is delighted to welcome veteran China watcher, Kerry Brown, to share some of the key ideas underpinning his most recent book, CEO, China: The Rise of Xi Jinping, mapping Xi’s grassroots climb from banished farmhand to one of the most powerful leaders in modern Chinese history.
Kerry Brown is a professor of Chinese studies at King’s College London. Brown has over 20 years’ experience of Chinese life, having worked in education, business and government, including a secretarial stint at the British Embassy in Beijing. Much of his work has focused on studying individual Chinese leaders and the dynamics of elite politics, including ‘China’s Silent Leader’, Xi’s predecessor, Hu Jintao.
