On January 2017, the National Energy Administration published the 13FYP plan, with a set of 2020 targets covering topics from total energy consumption to wind energy capacity. With the Energy 13FYP, China has raised its ambitions for a low-carbon future, highlighting the urgency that this country attaches to moving away from fossil fuels.
A brief look back at the progress of China’s energy targets since the 2009 Copenhagen climate summit, shows that:
- China has repeatedly strengthened its decarbonisation and low-carbon energy targets
- China exceeded most of its 2015 low-carbon energy and decarbonisation targets
- China plans to reduce “emissions intensity” by more than other major economies
The 2017 Innovation Conference is a unique conference that will allow us to hear from those leading and driving the transition to a zero-carbon economy. After lunch, we will have the opportunity of visiting CAS' Key Laboratory of Low-Carbon Conversion Science & Engineering.
