Dear Working Group member,
With China set to launch its national emissions trading system (ETS) by the end of the year, most probably in the context of the 23rd Session of the Conference of the Parties (COP23) to the UN Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Bonn (from 6th to 17th November), and the State Council set to approve the ETS implementing plan, many questions still remain unanswered. Up to these days, China has been struggling to get data for all industrial sectors and to determine the allocation of allowances.
As these and other issues affecting foreign businesses operating in China are still unanswered, Mr Shu Wang, Lead Managing Consultant at ICF and Former Deputy Director of the Climate Change Department at the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), will be able to share his insights about the upcoming ETS.
In addition, in the hope of COP23 being able to move the Paris Agreement forward, the European Chamber’s delegates in Bonn will be able to provide an update of the latest developments in the field of climate change.
Agenda:
- 9:30-9:50, Presentation on the national ETS by Mr Shu Wang, Lead Managing Consultant at ICF and Former Deputy Director of the Climate Change Department at the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC)
- 9:50-10:20, Open discussion and Q&A session about the national ETS
- 10:20 – 10:40, Update about the COP23 in Bonn by Shu Wang and Renato Roldao, Managing Director at ICF International.
- 10:40-11:00, Update and follow-up actions about the meetings (with DG CLIMA, DG ENER and DG TRADE) of the EU Tour relevant to the group by Renato Roldao
As usual, we welcome your suggestions for possible agenda topics and speakers for this and future meetings.
